The bill also provides some things for accusers that it does not for the accused, such as a confidential resource officer who will tell the accuser about counseling and accommodations. These accusations can be extremely stressful, especially for an innocent person. Many accused students have needed counseling and have attempted or. Prosecution Based on Anonymous Complaints The part of the bill that hurts due process the most, however, is allowing accusers to report anonymously. Unless a school only provides accommodations for the accuser which may be the case , it should not be able to prosecute an accused student without him or her even knowing what the accusation is or who is making it. A Place to Start: Combating Female Genital Mutilation The World Health Organization estimates that at least 200 million women and girls have experienced female genital mutilation FGM , the term for the practice of cutting, removing, or otherwise damaging female genitalia. The purpose of FGM is simple: to prevent girls and women from the potential of experiencing sexual pleasure, and therefore to discourage sex outside of marriage. There is no medical benefit to this practice. Rather, it results in severe medical complications that can affect a woman for a lifetime. If feminism stands for anything, it ought to be unequivocally against this abhorrent practice that violates womens human rights and dignity, and seeks to render female bodies as vessels for mens enjoyment, while denying women any of their own. Rates of FGM in some parts of Africa are staggering: According to by the General Accounting Office, in Egypt, Sudan, Mali, Guinea, and Somalia, more than 80 percent of women between the ages 15 and 49 have reported undergoing FGM. Turning these countrys laws and customs away from this practice will be no easy feat. It should be a diplomatic priority to develop strategies to outlaw this custom and to educate leaders on the significant negative effects it has on women and society. We also need to prevent this practice from being imported to America, and to prevent American citizens from being forced to undergo FGM elsewhere around the globe. In that case, it will almost definitely weaken them further. I think the decisive thing is the donors. The typical large investor in the GOP wants a financial return on investment. If they dont get it, theyre not going to make more large investments. The GOP thinks, probably correctly, that they may get wiped out next fall largely due to their idiot president. But as long as the donors feel like they were made whole, they can always make a comeback. And so their decision to impose really bad policy on the nation is most likely the sanest of two miserable choices. Hey, do yall remember? Well, then let me have Mike Huckabee him to you. Despite Huckabees inclination toward a forgiving Christianity, Robisons passion drew him in. He dropped out of seminary after one year to take a job as Robisons director of communications. The way the Moral Majority movement was actually started was there was a rally that James Robison did in 1979 that I helped cordinate, Huckabee said. It was all because of the local television station in Dallas throwing him off the air, because, in a sermon that he preached on television, Robison said homosexuality is a sin. MeToo set off a profound moment of collective bravery, a moment that would have been impossible without the broad sense of solidarity and support that welcomed people coming forward. I still vividly remember feeling the power of such support during a SlutWalk protest in 2012, as we rallied at Praa Roosevelt in So Paulo, Brazil. We were all gathered in an enormous circle.
